“Tour de Corn” bike ride and picnic.

Saturday, September 4, 2010

The corn is at record heights in Morris, so we thought it a good time to have another Tour de Corn. We can probably talk Ron D. into mapping a couple routes, heavy and
light hitters. The rendezvous point is Barry W’s house in Morris. The bike ride starts at 9:30 a.m., followed by the picnic at 12:30 p.m. Main entrée to be provided. Please bring your own beverage, a dish to pass (appetizer, salad, side dish, snack, or dessert), and a lawn chair. In the event of rain, we’ll just do the picnic. If you plan to attend, please contact Barry W,  or his secretary Barb L. via e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Hope you can attend this end-of-summer main event.

Vintage Illinois Wine Festival, Matthiessen State Park

Saturday, September 18, 2010

Our annual trek to sample and purchase Illinois’ finest wines will take place on Saturday, September 18th, at Matthiessen State Park, located just two miles south of Starved Rock. We will be setting up our "dining area" in the parking lot at Noon. The festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Everyone is asked to bring a snack, appetizer, or a dessert to share with our group. Please also bring a lawn chair. Small folding tables for our food are also welcome. Entry into the wine festival is $15.00 which will get you a commemorative wine glass and five tasting tickets. Please remember to bring a photo ID. Additional tasting tickets can be purchased within the festival for $1.00 each. If you wish to receive two extra wine tasting tickets, you can do so by buying your tickets in advance at www.vintageillinois.com. If you don’t care to sample any wine, there is no cost. Matthiessen State Park is located two miles south of Starved Rock State Park on Route 178. Take Exit 81 (Route 178) off of Interstate 80 to Utica, IL, then travel five miles south on Route 178. Weekend and Day Trips

Weekend Trips

We do not have many details as of yet; just dates and locations. It looks likely that there will be only two weekend trips this year. January 7-9, 2011 to Welch Village. A popular favorite! A longer weekend February 10-14, 2011: two days at Lutsen the best skiing in the midwest, and one each at Giant’s Ridge and Spirit Mountain all in Minnesota.

Day Trips

There is no news as of yet on these trips. Information will be publish as soon as possible

CLUB NOTES

There is a Board Meeting at Kris and Dean’s home Downer's Grove IL on Wed. August 25 at
6 p.m. Call Kathy B, if you cannot attend.
Keep the date of October 2, 2010 open for the 40th Anniversary Celebration at the K of C. Watch for details to come in a later newsletter.
Membership Applications are available online at www.jolietskiclub.org.
Skier of the month is Sherry L. I think we are going to have to think of a new nick name for Sherry on the slopes. “Crash” does not seem to apply after a season without a fall I could call memorable. She works very hard for the club. I can not remember the when she was not a board member. Sherry will be eligible for AARP membership soon.
